Justify The Means

A Hydroponics Adventure for 4-16 Players

Prologue:

Some weeks ago, a variety of small scouting parties were sent out into the neighbouring systems along the frontier. Each team deployed with the same set of objectives; To seek out planetary bodies with high potential of scavenge and salvage, or food and water.

Now, the path of the RSS Empress Teta brings the crew close to one such planet, designated only as OHS1782-03. The scouting team responsible for the find have requested any interested parties to gather in the Mess Hall to discuss their readings and samples, and perhaps strike up a plan to harvest some of these finds.

The Captain has requested that this be a relaxed affair, and as such attendees are welcome whether they are on duty or not, to discuss matters over light refreshments.

The gathering will be at 2000hrs 17.05 in the Mess Hall.

Chapter I: OHS1782-03

A.K.A Adventures in Diplomatic Parking

One lone shuttlecraft makes its way towards the surface, the RSS Empress Teta's dropship bringing in the first deployment of brave volunteers.

Wisps of scant cloud swirl across the viewports, barely masking the tranquil, tropical beauty of the islands and archipelagos stretched out below.

As the vessel approaches one of the larger islands, the sensor station begins to chirp. It seems that a few small pockets of humanoid life have been found upon the surface. Initial scans suggest that these may be primitive tribes, although the accompanying readouts of a handful of nearby space faring vehicles may contradict that theory.

The shuttle slows its descent as the crew consider this new information. Eventually, the pilot's voice crackles over the internal comms.

"... Have you got the readings back there? I'm not sure what to do with this...
I've marked a few places on the map. Where do you want me to set her down...?"

Red Markers denote areas of high Technical and Mechanical readings. (Broken lines show areas of interference, leading to incomplete scans.)
Yellow Markers denote possible Landing Zones.
Green Markers denote areas with large readings of Humanoid Life.

Chapter II: Locally Sourced

A.K.A What happens in neutral space, stays in neutral space

Locals

Chieftain Shentuw'rr is one of a long line of tribal leaders. Through tumultuous times, when neighbouring tribes have seen bloodlines fall and new leaders rise, Shentuw'rr has kept his people strong and the old traditions alive. His ancestors led his people through the Gift. His Father was the first to greet the Offworlders, and tentatively allow the learned of his tribe develop skills from outside, to pass forth to the People. The story of his name chooses the war of five tribes, when Chieftain Shentuw'rr of Sixteen Rises sent forth his clutch to be wed, mix blood and broker peace.
After losing his brood-son to the newest arrival of the Offworlders, only one of his clutch remains, of which he is fiercely protective.

Pethe'Kuuhn is proud to be the greatest warrior of Shentuw'rr's People. Stoic among friends, suspicious and hateful towards the danger of outsiders, he would willingly give his life to protect the People. His loyalty to the Shentuw'rr is unwavering, believing the cautious, yet progressive, attitudes of the line to be the best chance for the People's prosperity.

Shentuw'rr Ashe'kaal is brood-daughter to the Chieftain, and the last remaining of his clutch. Having been raised after the first arrival of the Offworlders, she is more curious and understanding of them and their ways than some of her fellow tribesmen. Even still, she remains wary, and perhaps with good reason.
Ashe'kaal will soon come of age and, as is tradition, it will soon fall to her to lead her People. Her comparatively young age of expected ascension, along with her inquisitive nature and free spirit, cause many to question whether she will have the tenacity and wisdom to lead as well as keep the old traditions alive.

Dee'Dee is an enigma. She is an aging Shaman, and the spiritual leader of Shentuw'rr's People. Her wisdom is beyond measure, as is her true age. There are rumours circulating that she may even have witnessed the Gift herself, as a young acolyte. She's usually evasive about the matter, her answers often in riddles and laced with ambiguity.
Despite her advanced years and the seriousness of her calling, Dee'Dee revels in laughter. In fact, she's usually to be found indulging in her childish nature as she plays with the Fledglings, or inflicting practical jokes on the poor, long suffering Kuuhn.

Offworlders

Gunto Lagarrian is the leader of this particular company of 'Scavengers, Salvagers and Purveyors of Exotic Goods'. He prides himself as being a cut above his peers in the business, offering honest work for loyal employees. He strives to always ensure his operation is by the book and in keeping with the law, which would likely explain why his crew keep a wide berth of Republic territory, despite the potential for lucrative deals to be made on the black markets.
A charismatic individual, well known for being open and welcoming to his clients, he recently found success in trading at the live auctions across Hutt Space; Dangerous and exotic creatures for the fighting pits, as well as interesting alien species for the gladiatorial arenas. Some of his stock are still sold into private collections, or into household servitude, and as such he's always on the lookout for new and interesting specimens to please his list of very particular clients.

Veneka Ketslo :: Veneka is the company's Beast Handler, an expert in tracking, capture and containment. Despite the apparent 'distasteful' nature of her work, she cares very dearly about her creatures, often keeping tabs on their progress after delivery to the client and has even been known to weep when news of their inevitable defeat reaches the company.
Her proudest capture was a Rancor, which she named 'Gusha', taken from the planet Dathomir at the behest of a particular client from the Hutt world of Sleheyron. The creature remains undefeated to this day.

2K-T6 :: This class three service droid was manufactured by Imperial DroidWorks sometime before the dissolution of the Treaty of Coruscant. Between that time, and the defeat of the Empire at the hands of Zakuul, this particular unit somehow found itself under the new ownership of a debt riddled contraband dealer known as 'Paxo'. The droid was used as payment of one such debt, placing it into the hands of Lagarrian, who has since utilised its services for his own company.
2K-T6 is incapable of dishonesty, has a perfect memory, and will develop no emotional attachments to his charges. As such, Lagarrian deemed him the perfect candidate to tend to his humanoid stock in his stead. 2K keeps them in good health, well fed, and can instantly match potential candidates to the near exhaustive list of clients stored in his database.

Chump :: Chump is an expert in 'vintage technology'. In particular, he specialises in outdated or difficult to source tech, though is more than happy to refurbish and trade in more modern builds. Many of the men serving in Chump's team were lost during the early days of the expedition, when he sent them to scavenge from one of the highly decorated wrecks dotting the archipelago. Their bodies were never found, and he saddens to think of them.
Despite his large stature and gruff appearance, Chump is surprisingly soft spoken and sensitive. Without his engineers to talk to, he can often be found by himself, quietly tinkering with the latest find.

Chapter III: Listen. Learn.

A.K.A Village Life: A 'choose your own adventure' series!

The following chapter marks the end of the narrative heavy, rigid structure of the previous two. Instead, you'll find the mission back in your hands. This was supposed to be a Hydroponics Adventure, right...?
The natives have agreed to help the crew. Better yet, they've agreed to help them help themselves. Below, you'll find a series of missions that you'll be able to pick from.

Please check back regularly! Some of these missions are dependant upon the completion of others before they become available. Others only unlock as the party reaches a certain level of Reputation with the natives.

Mission Board

Pethe'Kuuhn : The Hunter
Raw Materials, Seedlings, Farming Equipment, Reputation

► Activation:

► Learn to Hunt. Complete. The crew of the Empress Teta have been granted permission to hunt from the bounty offered by the People's archipelago. Their culture, however, seems to have a large number of rules and customs to follow with regards to this. Pethe'Kuuhn, as the lead Hunter of the village, has agreed to teach you.

Reward: 25pts Reputation

► Outsider:

► Target Practice. Complete. In order to perfect your aim with the javelin or bow, Pethe'Bangorr has suggested that you might want to try using them to dislodge the Camba-fruit growing from trees all over the jungle. He says that the method is one that he once used himself... just don't tell Pethe'Kuuhn!

Reward: 25pts Reputation. Camba-fruit seeds.

► Fledgling Fletching. Complete. The fledglings are due to have a lesson on crafting arrows tomorrow. Unfortunately, the classroom is all out of feathers! It's up to you to hunt down two Orobirds, bring them home, and pluck them. As a reward, the natives will prepare and cook the meat for your evening meal. You may also be invited to sit in on the fledgling's lesson... if you do a good job!

Reward: 25pts Reputation.

► Greedy Grophlet. Complete. Disaster! A greedy little grophlet has snuffled his way into town and gobbled up Merl'Ikaala's Pairing Amulet whilst she was bathing! She's obviously distraught, and desperate to have it back before her life mate returns from the hunt. Track the wild baby grophlet down and find some way to relieve him of the trinket.

Reward: 25pts Reputation.

► Scouts of Tomorrow. Complete. Now that you've been accepted by the Shaman, and shown how to respect and care for the great Gift sites across the islands, Pethe'Kuuhn has asked that you help him prepare mounts for the fledglings who will some day become his Eyes.
Head out into the wilds and find healthy orobird nests, being careful not to alert the mother, who is likely to be nearby. Bring back no more than one egg from each nest, and no more than one egg per party member.
In return, Kuuhn will have his scouts show you where the most fertile soil can be found, and help you harvest several tonnes of it.

Reward: 25pts Reputation. Soil (25 Tonnes).

► Things in Cages. Complete. Scattered all about the Southern Isle are trap cages, laid by Lagarrian's company, that contain wild beasts. Their containment is unnatural, and the hunt is not clean. Kuuhn has requested that a group of brave Hunters volunteer to free them.

Reward: 35pts Reputation.

Things in Cages II. Complete. Pethe'Kuuhn's scouts have reported back that beast cages are being moved on the backs of 'mounts without blood or breath'. These ones have been spotted around the Northern Isle. Free the creatures.

Reward: 50+ pts Reputation.

▷ Newcomer:

▷ Too close for comfort. Even the greatest hunters shiver at the sight of the great Kell Dragons that inhabit these isles. Few in number, yet ferocious in nature, the natives have long since learned to respect this predator. Recent changes, do to the slaver's company's methods, have driven a young Kell Dragon to take up residence in a cave, worryingly close to the village. Efforts to move the creature along have failed. Only one option remains.
This mission takes place within an instanced area, and as such is limited to 4 characters maximum.

Reward: 100pts Reputation.

Ashe'kaal : The Chieftain's Daughter
Reputation

▷ Newcomer:

▷ Coming Soon. N/A

Dee'Dee : The Shaman
Starship Salvage, Reputation

► Activation:

► These Old Eyes. Complete. Dee'Dee needs to make a little journey, to tend to her duties as the village's elder Shaman. She's decided that you will go with her. Something to do with 'not being as young as she once was'. It seems she won't take no for an answer!

Reward: 25pts Reputation

► Outsider:

► Seasonal Pilgrimage. Complete. Every year, it falls to Dee'Dee's young apprentices to make the journey out to the smaller spiritual sites (that's starship wreckage, to you and me) and make the necessary seasonal changes, turning the People's eyes towards the Gods. As the newest younglings taken under her wing, this year the task falls to you.
Following a little probing, it seems that what you're being asked to do is find, and adjust, a variety of wing flaps and turbines. Don't forget to mark them with a freshly painted Republic insignia!
In return, Dee'Dee has promised to bestow upon the party her finest ceremonial staff, salvaged from the Gift in the first days, long ago. Truly, an item of great spiritual importance. Bear it well.

Reward: 25pts Reputation. Vibro-mop.

▷ Newcomer:

Life-Giving Water. Alongside a wide range of potent salves, carefully crafted and honed over generations, the Healers of the tribe have access to another treasured resource. A source of water, collected from crystal clear pools at the furthest point of the archipelago, said to have incredible healing properties.
After the recent conflicts, reserves are running low. Dee'Dee has asked that you acquire more.
This mission takes place within an instanced area, and as such is limited to 4 characters maximum.

Reward: 100pts Reputation.

Chapter IV: Setting Sail.

A.K.A Let me see you shake your tail feather!

With the imminent departure of Lagarrian and his company, thanks in no small part to the crew of the Empress Teta, the time has come to depart OHS1782-03 and return focus to the greater goal. The Galaxy remains in fracture, the Republic still a shadow of its former self.

In the spirit of the newfound friendship between the crew and the villagers, the Chieftain has announced a celebration. A time honoured tradition of feast and festivity to mark the beginning of a long journey. The fires will be lit on the evening of 17.7.17, with song, dance, food and storytelling to follow.

As guests of honour, it is hoped that all members of the away team will attend. Not only that, but as a show of true acceptance into the tribe, you are each encouraged to cast off your armours and your masks, and clothe yourselves in the trappings of the native people.
